Trinidad Carnival 2026: Your Essential Planning Guide

What is Trinidad Carnival?
Trinidad Carnival is an explosion of color, music, and culture held annually in Trinidad and Tobago and celebrated on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
This vibrant festival is a joyous celebration capturing the essence of unity, creativity, and cultural richness through parades, dazzling costumes, and infectious soca and calypso tunes.
Revelers from around the globe come together to partake in the lively street parties, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Caribbean.
Where is Trinidad Carnival?
While most of the Carnival action happens in the capital, Port of Spain, the celebration doesn’t stop there! You’ll also find parties and festivities across the island—in places like Chaguanas, Mayaro, Arima, San Fernando, and even Tobago.
When is Trinidad Carnival 2026?
Carnival Monday: February 16, 2026
Carnival Tuesday: February 17, 2026
Carnival week—from February 7 to 15, 2026—is the ideal time to arrive in Trinidad. You’ll have the chance to soak in the energy, attend fetes (parties), catch live performances, dive into cultural activities, and even do some sightseeing.
Getting to Trinidad
You’ll want to fly into Piarco International Airport (POS), the main hub for international flights. Flights to Trinidad can be pricey, but booking early when airlines release tickets can help you lock in better rates. Search in incognito mode for lower fares.
I always start my search on Skyscanner but book directly with the airline. This makes it easier to adjust my flight if needed. I avoid third-party sites like Expedia since changing flights through them can be a hassle.

Insider Tip: Grab alcohol at the duty-free shop before leaving the airport. It’s more cost-effective and convenient, especially if you plan on attending cooler fetes! You will need to bring your bottle to cooler fetes.

Booking your flight is just step one—securing accommodations is just as crucial! With 25,000+ Carnival revelers flocking to Trinidad from all over the world, finding a place can feel like hunger games but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
Woodbrook and the Savannah area are top picks for convenience since they’re within walking distance of most fete venues, such as Queen’s Park Oval, Fatima Grounds, Nelson Mandela Park, Hasley Crawford Stadium, and St. Mary’s College Grounds.
If you have friends or family to stay with or a local connection for an apartment or villa, you’re already ahead of the game!

Guest Houses
Insider tip: For ease of moving around Port of Spain, other areas to check out are St. James, St. Ann’s, Cascade, and Diego Martin. These areas aren’t too out of the way and are still convenient, especially if you have a driver.

Getting Around Port of Spain
While most fetes and events happen in and around Port of Spain, some take place outside the city. I highly recommend securing a driver in advance to avoid the hassle of arranging transport for each fete.
For errands around Port of Spain—like picking up your costume—TT RideShare is a reliable and convenient option. It’s my go-to for quick trips to the mall or anywhere in the Woodbrook area.
Tip: Need a driver during Carnival? Head to the Hyatt Hotel, where many drivers are available for hire during peak season. If you find one you like, swap contact info on WhatsApp to easily reach them when needed.
Trinidad Carnival 2026 Concierge Service: Soca Islands
If planning for Trinidad Carnival 2026 feels overwhelming, or you’d rather skip the hassle, I highly recommend Soca Islands—a top-tier concierge service.
Roger, Carter, and the team take care of everything: securing the best fete tickets, playing mas with top bands, organizing cultural experiences, and handling lodging and airport transfers.
I used Soca Islands for two years, and they exceeded my expectations every time. While other concierge services have mixed reviews, Soca Islands delivers a stress-free, unforgettable Carnival experience.
Playing Mas

Playing mas is the main event, and the two days that many revelers look forward to! You must register with a band, choose your costume, and hit the road as a masquerader on Monday and Tuesday Carnival.
Some top mas bands include Tribe, Yuma, and Spirit, but there are plenty of options. Costume prices range from $500 to $2,000:
- Frontline costumes ($1,200–$2,000): Includes a wire bra, headpiece, feather backpack, arm and leg pieces, and accessories.
- Backline costumes ($500–$900): A monokini or another variation with a top, leg and arm accessories, and a headpiece.
Personal tip: Feather backpacks look amazing but can be frustrating to maneuver through crowds. I tried them once and loved the look, but now I prefer going without them. It’s all about personal preference!

I LOVE Carnival Monday for two reasons: it’s the official warm-up for Carnival Tuesday and the day to rock my Monday wear outfit!
Monday and Tuesday is when you go on the road with your mas band.
Monday Wear is all about comfort and self-expression—whether you go casual or elaborate, it’s your choice!
I usually rock a fun bodysuit or swimsuit, but if you’re looking for something embellished and customized, there are plenty of talented designers to choose from.
