Ambergris Caye
I spent most of my time in the San Pedro Town of Ambergris Caye, a popular tourist destination off the coast of Belize City. One of my most memorable adventures was with La Gaviota Sailing AdventuresTours snorkeling in the Hol Chain Marine Reserve. I was in awe of the incredible underwater wildlife and stunning reefs. Our guides, Tony, Lorenzo, and Juan, made sure we had a merry time swimming around and learning about the island’s history. On top of that, we had all the rum punch our hearts desired!
Other than snorkeling and hanging out at Secret beach, other fun activities include:
- Taking a sunset cruise.
- Taking a day trip to Caye Caulker.
- Grabbing dinner at Truck Stop.
At Truck Stop, you have the option to feast on delicious food choices ranging from Belizean fusion, Asian fusion, Latin, pizza, and vegetarian. The atmosphere is excellent; be sure you stay and enjoy the live music.
Belize City
Belize City was an unexpected adventure, and I highly recommend you dedicate at least one day to exploring the commercial district. Oh, don’t forget to take a selfie in front of the colorful welcome to Belize sign near the Baron Bliss Lighthouse.
Explore the Garifuna Culture
Hopkins is the best place to immerse yourself and make new friends! Head to the south of Belize for an authentic experience learning about the Garifuna culture. Originally from Saint Vincent, the Garifuna people have African and indigenous Arawak ancestry.
What’s notable is the Garifuna people were never enslaved, and they are incredibly proud people. Their culture and heritage have been well preserved. You’ll get the chance to participate in their musical performances, whether dancing, singing, or drumming. Lastly, take a cooking class to taste some traditional Garifuna cuisine! You won’t be sorry!
